Never known to shy away from a challenge, the Emerald Green Media team put their fitness to the test on St. Patrick’s Day – Friday, 17 March – by completing the annual SPAR Craic 10k road running race.
The team undertook the challenge to raise money for SENSE NI – a Belfast-based charity that we are passionate about.
The SPAR Craic 10k road race is an annual event in Belfast. It began in 2015 and – excluding pandemic years – has taken place in the city each St. Patrick’s Day. In 2020, the pandemic led to the cancellation of the event, and in 2021 the race was virtual.
The race attracts runners of all levels and experience from across the island of Ireland and even further afield. Money from each registration fee is donated to the event’s charity partner, Marie Curie.
The race sets off from Belfast City Hall before venturing west. Returning towards the city centre, it then heads south to Botanic Gardens before finishing in Ormeau Park.
The Emerald Green Media team proved a perfect example of the diversity of running experience on display during the race.
From people who had never run before to those who have completed marathons, we each completed the run to the best of our respective abilities. Two things we had in common, however, were our dedication to our cause and our sore legs on Saturday morning!
The entire team managed to finish the race within a respectable time of 1:27:48.
We completed the race in order to raise money for a charity close to our collective heart – SENSE NI.
SENSE NI is a charity supporting those with sensory impairments and complex disabilities living in Northern Ireland.
By providing education, advice, and employment opportunities, they help the thousands of people who rely on their help to live important and active lives in the community.
For over 65 years, they have offered residential care, virtual support, and well-being programmes to people of all ages. They also offer a range of sign language classes and awareness-raising events to help others support those who need it.
At the time of writing, the Emerald Green Media team has raised £660 for this great charity. We would like to take this opportunity to thank those who have donated for their generous contributions.
Donations remain open – if you would like to contribute, you’ll find our JustGiving page here.
