With a monthly readership of over 50,000, Meanwhile in Ireland is well established as a voice on Irish popular culture and news.
Rather than resting on their laurels, the team at Meanwhile in Ireland instead made a foray into the world of online retail, opening an online shop earlier this year.
Their decision has been vindicated and their efforts have been recognised by the Irish eCommerce Awards, who have shortlisted the Meanwhile in Ireland shop for the eCommerce Startup Website of the Year award at their upcoming ceremony in Dublin.
Meanwhile in Ireland was established in 2014 and since then has become a leading authority on Irish popular culture. Another string was added to its bow with the launch of its official shop in March 2023.
In keeping with its ear-to-the-ground approach to Irish popular culture, the shop launched with a collaborative merchandise endeavour with Belfast busking icon and TikTok influencer Jelvis Pelvis. The now sold-out range proved a hit with the people of Belfast and beyond.
The Jelvis Pelvis range was only the beginning. In the short time since its inception, the Meanwhile in Ireland shop has expanded into other popular gift ideas including clothing, prints, mugs, and Celtic jewellery.
The foray into Celtic jewellery has proven the most fruitful with a range of Claddagh rings, Viking rings, and Celtic Cross necklaces shipping locally and internationally on a regular basis.
This consistency of quality of both product and service is undoubtedly a key reason for Meanwhile in Ireland’s nomination for eCommerce Startup Website of the Year.
The Irish eCommerce Awards are organised by the team behind eComm Live, Ireland’s premier eCommerce conference and training event. The awards celebrate companies across the country at the forefront of the online retail industry in Ireland.
This year, the efforts of the entire Meanwhile in Ireland team has been recognised with the nomination for the eCommerce Startup Website of the Year award.
While the fantastic products and service provided by the Meanwhile in Ireland shop are self-evident, it is unlikely that it would have achieved a nomination on this alone. Rather, a well-thought-out advertising campaign also caught the organisers’ eyes.
The advertising campaign for the shop was threefold. Firstly, the incredible marketing team developed – and continue to develop – innovative social media posts advertising the range of products.
Secondly, Meanwhile in Ireland’s editing team and cohort of outstanding writers composed articles showcasing such highlights as the Jelvis Pelvis collaboration and the Celtic jewellery range.
Finally, the strategic placement of advertisements in unrelated articles, ensured that the shop’s products reached even the most casual of Meanwhile in Ireland’s great readership.
The awards ceremony takes place on 22 September. Fingers crossed the Meanwhile in Ireland team take home the prize!
